I decided to stay in different places on my way back to Tucson to see more cities and have more experiences. My first stop on this journey was Eugene, Oregon. I have only been to Eugene once before to see a Grateful Dead show in the early 90s (no regrets). So I was happy to put the college town on my route. I stayed at the EVEN Hotel Eugene, which is an IHG Hotel. So let's get to it, shall we?
Vibe
EVEN boasts itself as a wellness hotel, and they aren't kidding, but I'll get to that later. Let's start with the overall look of the hotel. It's very minimalist and modern. I enjoyed the color palette used within the lobby and room. It felt warm and bright without being garish. The hotel also touts itself as a home away from home, so there are places to work, workout, eat, and of course sleep. The place kind of gave me a hospital vibe, but not in a bad way, if that makes sense.
Let's talk about the room first. EVEN wants to you be able to work out without leaving your room. When you first walk in a balance ball and resistance bands welcome you. There is another "fitness zone" in front of the full length mirror with a yoga mat and blocks, foam roller and cleaning wipes. They also have fitness videos on their website to get you going. Had I been here for more than a quick overnight, I would definitely have taken advantage of the exercise equipment. I was however, inspired to take the stairs, so at least I got my steps in.
The room also offers a desk, fridge, and Keurig with local coffees. There are TONS of outlets and USB ports, and iHOME clock, and good sized television. There are uplifting message throughout the hotel and rooms, a whiteboard in my room which said, "Enjoy Your Stay," and all the room numbers are even (not sure why other than the hotel being called EVEN).
Cleanliness
Very clean. And there were people cleaning all the time, mopping floors, emptying garbages, etc.
Amenities
So many. Aside from what I mentioned in my room, I guess some rooms have elevated exercise equipment and standing and sitting work stations. The shower is amazeballs. There are color changing LED lights for whatever suits your mood. Their luggage carts are not the standard you usually find at hotels and are awesome. The hotel has their own, free parking lot, some undercover which is nice in the rainy Pacific Northwest. In their lobby they have a bunch of games you could borrow if so inclined. The 2nd and 4th floors have filtered water and ice. There are meeting rooms, a pool and spa, a store with conveniences, and a restaurant with a full bar on site. The restaurant offers healthy dishes, as well as classics, like mac and cheese, but with a healthy twist. I enjoyed their balsamic dijon wings and a side salad and they did not disappoint. I decided to eat at the restaurant, but I could have called and ordered my food for pick up. While there is not a dedicated dog area, dogs are welcome to stay on the third floor and there is at least a poop bag and garbage receptacle on site. Oh, and aside from the mini gym in your room, there's also another gym with state of the art equipment. So there's that.
Staff
Very helpful and friendly. Everyone from the desk clerks to the cleaning staff said hello. The front desk girl, Danielle said if I needed anything to give her a call, and I think she meant it. lol.
Location
If you're here for a few days, there is plenty to do. The hotel is near restaurants, bars, and shopping. Or you could visit Hendricks Park, Alton Baker Park, and the Owen Rose Garden. Hike at Mount Pisgah or bike on the Willamette River Bike Trail. If you're a wine person, there are plenty of wineries to visit in and near Eugene. Really, just tons to do in the area.
Flaws
I only have one and that's that the pillows are too soft for me. Other than that, this place is perfect.
The Verdict
According to my rating system, EVEN Hotel Eugene is getting 9.9 hotel keys. Phenomenal!
See below for more photos from the hotel. Happy and safe travels!
